Several arms recovered as search ops intensify

Imphal, July 22 2024:
Security forces recovered several weapons as search operations continued in different places on Monday.
According to a police report, a team of Leimakhong police station, and 22 and 30 Assam Rifles conducted search operation in L Phaijang village area of Kangpokpi district on Monday from 9.30 am till 12.15am leading to recovery of one 7.62mm sniper rifle with magazine and eight rounds, one .22 rifle with magazine, two improvised projectile launchers, one 36 HE handgrenade, five projectiles, one magazine with 10 rounds of AK-47, two tube launchers, one telescopic sight, one LMG Bipod, one Baofeng Radio Set and a radio battery.
Meanwhile, a joint team of Bishnupur district police, 16 Kumaon Regiment and E/71 CRPF BN conducted search operation at Torbung Sabal Mamang Leikai under Phou-gakchao Ikhai PS from 6.30am till 8.15am on Monday.
During the operation, one SMG with magazine, one single barrel, two 2-inch mortar shells, one 51-inch mortar shell, four detonators and five gelatine sticks were recovered, which were subsequently handed over to Phougakchao Ikhai PS where a case has also been registered.
According to a press release by the PRO & spokesperson of Ministry of Defence, acting on specific information regarding the presence of substantial quantity of arms and explosives in general area Phougakchao Ikhai of Bishnupur District, the Indian Army launched a joint operation with Manipur Police and CRPF on Monday.
After carrying out an extensive search of the area, the operation led to recovery of one 9mm Carbine Machine Gun, one Single barrel 12 bore rifle, ammunition and explosives.
The recoveries have been handed over to the Manipur police for further investigation and disposal.
In another operation carried out in Torbung bazar and surrounding areas from 8am till 11am on Monday, a combined team of 9 AR, 16 Kumaon Regiment and 115 BSF in coordination with Churachandpur district police recovered one local made mortar bomb (Pumpi).
Around 20 houses were also searched and 120 people verified.
On the other hand, a joint team of Imphal East district and BSF carried out a search operation in Yairipok Laimanai area under Andro PS from 5am till 6.20 am on Monday.
In all, 70 houses were searched and 60 people verified.
Another combined team of Imphal West district police and CRPF conducted a search operation in Mayanglangjing Tamang area under Lamsang PS from 8.15 am till 9.30 am on Monday.
Altogether 40 houses were searched and 95 people verified.
A combined team of Thoubal district police and BSF also conducted search operation in Ningel and Horton villages under Nongpok Sekmai PS from 4.45am till 6.30am on Monday.
Around 83 houses were searched and 143 people verified.
A joint team of Kakching district police and BSF also searched Kakching Ningthou Leika from 6.15 am till 7.30 am on Monday.
Altogether 65 houses were searched and 155 people verified.
However, there were no reports of any arrests or recovery of weapons in all the above four search operations.
Meanwhile, the two active cadres of the proscribed KYKL, namely Samurailakpam Devo Sharma alias Kengba (23) s/o (L) S Devadatta Sharma of Meitram Makha Leikai and Taorem Yuhenba Singh alias Loya (23) s/o T Ranjit Singh of Keirao Makha Leikai, who were reportedly arrested in a joint operation by Tengnoupal district police and 5 AR on Sunday morning from near Border Pillar No.80, have been clarified to be members of SOREPA and not KYKL.
