Talks held, Jiribam stir suspended

Jiribam, July 22 2014:
With the Manipur government issuing notifications for recruitment of 8 contract lecturers for Jiribam Govt.Hr Sec.
School and 140 teachers for schools from lower to High School level, the agitated student organisations of Jiribam sub division have announced suspension of their agitation with effect from midnight of July 22 .
Announcing the decision at a press conference held today at the office of AMSU District Committee, the student leaders cautioned the government that they stir would resume, unless the state government fulfils their demands by recruiting and posting the requisite teachers in the schools of Jiribam sub division within the month of August.
They also urged the government to ensure conduct of normal classes for the students by September this year.
Earlier at 1 pm today before making the announcement, the leaders of 4 students' bodies held talks with ADC Jiribam Dr.Harmit Singh Pahuja.
It may be mentioned that 4 student bodies namely AMSU District Committee, Jiribam; MSF, Special Branch; DESAM Local Council and KSA, Jiribam Unit have long been resorting to various forms of agitations demanding the posting of requisite teachers in educational institutions in Jiribam.
During the press conference, the student leaders appreciated the actions taken up by the Education Minister M.Okendra Singh, local MLA Th.Debendra Singh and Jiribam ADC Dr.Harmit Singh Pahuja in response to their long standing demands.
The student leaders also lauded student organisations of various communities and the Civil Society Organisations for extending support to their movement.
Meanwhile, a joint statement of All Jiribam Meira Paibee, Jiri Ima Meira Paibee Lup, WACAK and JIMWAK expressed gratitude to Education Minister M.Okendra Singh, local MLA Th.Debendra Singh and ADC Dr.Harmit Singh Pahuja for their efforts towards materialising the students' demands.
