Imphal, August 21 2019:
Showing solidarity with the protest by workers at Jiribam FCI, workers of FCI Sangaiprou have launched a ceasework protest from today.
Speaking to media persons at CAF&PD Labourers' Welfare Association head office at Sangaiprou today, the association's treasurer Romesh Laishram said that on August 7, the labourers of FCI Jiribam submitted a memorandum to contractor M/S Anwar Mathai Enterprise to increase the price of carrying a 50 kgs bag from Rs 2 to Rs 6 (per bag) .
The labourers decided to launch the ceasework strike from August 14, he said adding that instead of coming to an amicable solution, some labourers were sourced from Silchar and engaged in the work, while spreading fabricated lies about the protesting labourers.
Such firms, which instead of hearing the plight of the labourers, act in such a high-handed and stubborn manner, will be considered as an enemy of not only the labourers but the people as well, Romesh warned.
He continued that till date, the firm has not given any response which is highly condemnable and this forced the labourers at FCI Sangaiprou to launch the ceasework strike from today.
The strike will continue until the demands of the Jiribam FCI workers are met, he said, adding that if the firm still refuses to accept the demand, then the labourers of the State godown are also prepared to join the protest.
