CLK celebrates 31st foundation day

Imphal, March 21 2025: Chanura Lamchinglel Kangleipak (CLK) celebrated its 31st foundation day at Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday with former JNIMS director Dr L Deven, CLK president Ch Pakpi Chanu and Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL) president RK Sanahanbi as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Deven commended CLK for its continuous contribution in promoting peace and tranquillity in the state and stressed the need to extending support to such organisations for the betterment of society.

According to Pakpi Chanu, the Lup was established as a women's organisation focused on achieving economic independence.

Through its Green Revolution Plan, the Lup has been planting potatoes, peas and groundnuts in Sanasabi, Keibi and Sanapat villages in Imphal East district, as well as cultivating cotton with the villagers of Kwatha.

Additionally, the Lup publishes a weekly magazine that spreads messages aimed at empowering women and promoting their economic development, she said.

COCOMI coordinator Athouba, who was also present at the commemorative event, emphasised the role of women amid the crisis situation in the state.

Athouba also noted that women's participation in social issues remains limited with fewer women engaged in discussions on social platforms, TV and radio debates, as well as in academic seminars, when compared to their male counterparts.
