Governor reviews TB-free plan for 2025

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla chaired a review meeting on the 'NIK-SHAY' and TB Control Programme at Raj Bhavan, here, on Tuesday, in the presence of health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, health commissioner Sumant Singh, Dr Mairembam Dinesh Singh, director State Mission NHM Manipur, and Dr Hemlata Thokchom, state tuberculosis officer of the NTEP Manipur.
During the meeting, the health minister provided an update on the progress and achievements of the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukht Bharat Abhiyan in the state, a release by PRO Raj Bhavan said.
Governor Bhalla also reviewed the implementation of the special 100-day campaign recently announced by the Prime Minister.
He emphasised the importance of adopting a multi-faceted approach, including enhancing patient support systems, leveraging technology, improving diagnostic tools, and exploring new treatment options.
The Governor stressed that the 100-day campaign should evolve into a mass movement across the state.
The health minister elaborated on the objectives of the campaign, launched nationwide by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, which aims to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) in India by 2025.Noting that the campaign is progressing actively with the involvement of various stakeholders, Dr Ranjan highlighted its goals including increasing community engagement in TB elimination efforts, raising public awareness, and reducing the stigma associated with the disease.
The governor was informed that the campaign provides additional support to TB patients, including nutritional and vocational assistance, as well as improved access to diagnostic and treatment services.
Efforts to enhance the living and working conditions of TB patients are also integral to the campaign's framework, the release said.
Governor Bhalla urged the Health Department to establish clear timelines and ensure the timely implementation of various interventions and also called on the public to actively participate in the campaign, underlining the collective responsibility of making India TB-free within this year.
