1st State Level Tribal Film Festival 2017 concludes
Films build cultural integration and aid peaceful coexistence: Deputy Chief Minister

Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar said that films are the most important medium to build cultural integration and aid peaceful coexistence among communities in the State .
The Deputy CM was speaking at the closing ceremony of 1st State Level Tribal Films' Festival 2017, held at Amity Hall of Adimjati Complex, Ching-meirong in Imphal today .
Joykumar said that film festivals not only showcase but also offer a right platform to exchange cultures of various communities in the State.
He added that most of the films reflected social atmosphere from time to time and give us the message to re-think on issues which can be addressed collectively or individually .
Joykumar stated resemblances in culture and traditions are also reflected in films.
Therefore, to develop good human relationship and foster peaceful coexistence among communities, such festivals should be held together along with the other films produced in the State.
He said a number of tribes and sub-tribes with different culture and traditions have inhabited in Manipur for the last so many years.
Despite having such differences, people in hill and valley are enjoying festivals together which shows the uniqueness of unity in diversity, he added .
Stating that Government is trying to develop film production in the State, Deputy Chief Minister said, a film and television institute has already been established to train people working in the field and to nurture new talents.
He appealed people to take opportunities from this institute .
The Deputy Chief Minister also distributed pre- sentations to the film directors and producers in the ceremony .
The three-days festival, which was organised by the State Level Tribal Films' Festival Committee (SLTFF) Manipur, had shown altogether eight films from Zeliangrong, Anal, Chothe, Kuki, Tangkhul, Aimol and Inpui .
The festival was aimed at providing a common platform for the cinemas of the tribes to project the excellence of the film art, to contribute to the understanding and appreciation of film cultures of different tribes in the context of their social and cultural ethos; and promoting friendship and cooperation among people of the State
Earlier, Chairman of SLTTF Dr Gairiangmei Maringmei submitted a me-morandum to the Deputy Chief Minister .
The memorandum urged to open a film theatre/hall each in all the hill district headquarters, earmark funds for organising State Level Tribal Films' Festival annually and give financial assistance for conducting awareness campaigns, seminars and work- shop on tribal film making and documentaries.
