MLA Nishikant honours rescuers, students

Keishamthong AC MLA Sapam Nishikant on Friday honoured around 6 civilians who bravely rushed to extinguish a fire that broke out at the residence of one Thokchom Chandra Devi near Rising Youth Club, Keishampat Leimajam Leikai on June 13 .
During the function which was organised at the MLA s Sega Road Thouda Bhabok Leikai residence on Friday afternoon, Nishikant presented simple gifts including monetary reward, lengyan (stole) and flowers to the six rescuers, identified as Md Jamizur, Md Samir, Md Kafur, Md Ithem, Md Ibungo and Sougrakpam Romeo, who were working nearby on that day.
The MLA also felicitated two students from the constituency, Dhanthoi Soubam and Uniqueca Laisom, who secured 11th position (Science) and 9th Position (Arts) respectively in the HSE-2022, with cash prize and Lengyan Phi each.
Speaking on the occasion, Nishikant recounted that although he was outside the state on the day of fire incident, members of Team Nishikant extended all possible help.
However, the six rescuers did the most courageous thing by rushing inside the burning house and throwing the family's gas cylinder outside, thereby preventing a more serious outcome.
Standing by his pre-poll promise of not involving in any profitable or contractual works, the MLA denied claims of neglecting the constituency, stating that Keishamthong AC did not face any flash floods after the recent heavy rains, compared to previous years.
He then said that government is yet to take up any development programme for each constituency.
Nonetheless, he has been in talks with various ministers to commence the development works of the constituency.
