UG cadres arrested; arms, vehicles recovered

Imphal, May 17 2025: In a series of operations from May 13 to 16, state police and central security forces arrested several cadres of various banned UG organisations, seized illegal weapons and ammunition, and recovered stolen vehicles across multiple districts of the state.

On Thursday, one cadre of KCP (PWG), identified as Oinam James Singh (30) of Mayang Langjing Tamang, Imphal West, was arrested by security forces from Mayang Langjing under Lamsang police station.

He was allegedly involved in extortion activities targeting the public.

A two-wheeler and a mobile phone were seized from his possession.

On the same day, police arrested a cadre of PREPAK (Pro), identified as Ningthoujam Abungte Singh alias Thoujal (36) of Tronglaobi Makha Leikai, Bishnupur district.

He was rounded up from the same locality under Moirang PS for his involvement in recruiting youths for PREPAK (Pro) to be sent to Myanmar.

One mobile phone was seized from him.

An active member of Pambei-led UNLF, identified as Hijam Jiten alias Ibai (60) of Athokpam Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district, was arrested by police from Sangaiyum-pham Cherapur Mayai Leikai under Thoubal PS on Thursday.

He was found to be involved in monetary demands from government educational institutions in Thoubal and Imphal.

A two-wheeler and a mobile phone were recovered from his possession.

In another operation on the same day, security forces apprehended a non-SoO cadre of Chin Kuki National Defence Force (CKNDF), identified as Thongkhohou Touthang (34) of Tonglal Veng, Churachandpur district.

He was apprehended from Tuibong under Churachandpur PS.

He was allegedly involved in recruiting youths for armed insurgency, facilitating cross-bor der movement of arms and cadres, and collecting extortion money in the name of CKNDF.

A mobile phone and SIM card were seized from him.

On Friday, security forces apprehended another PREPAK (Pro) cadre identified as Oinam Milan Singh (53) of Wangkhei Hijam Leirak, Imphal West district, from Wangkhei Ayangpalli under Porompat PS in Imphal East.

He was allegedly involved in extortion from government offices and the public through threats and monetary demands.

A four-wheeler, two mobile phones, and some amount of cash were recovered from him.

Additionally on Friday, two cadres of KCP (PWG) were arrested from different locations in Imphal East district.

They-were identified as Lambalmayum Bobo Meetei alias Eshen alias Mani (41) of Yourabung Ward No 2 School Leirak, and Yumnam Chandra Meetei (40) of Yourabung Mamang Leikai, presently staying at Sawombung Kabui Khunjao.

They were involved in extorting money from government offices.

Police seized two mobile phones, two Aadhaar cards, and cash from their possession.

That same day, a joint security team recovered two bolt-action single-barrel rifles, one .22 bolt-action rifle, one 9 mm pistol with magazine, and 12 live rounds of ammunition from Kailenjang village and its surrounding areas under Senapati PS.

Separately, a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from Kharungpat near Buffalo Farm area under Kakching PS on the same day.

The recovery included one carbine with an empty magazine, four bolt-action single-barrel rifles, one revolver, three No 36 hand grenades, one 51 mm mortar shell, several empty cases of various rifles, four tube launchers, one smoke grenade, three tear smoke shells, one Baofeng handheld set, and various tactical gear including camouflage helmets, BP covers, magazine pouch, tactical boots, and bags.

In another recovery, police seized a cache of weapons and explosives from Nungjengbi Urup Hill under Irilbung PS in Imphal East.

The recovered items included one .303 rifle with magazine, one 9 mm pistol with three magazines, one country-made pistol, multiple rounds of live ammunition of different calibres, several rifle magazines, a wood piercing shell, over 400 empty cases of 7.62 mm rounds, mini flare tube launchers, tear smoke shells, wireless set batteries, and one white sack containing these materials.

On the same day, an active KCP (PWG) member, identified as Ningthoukhongjam Malemnganba Meitei alias Tondonba (20) of Langthabal Kunja Mamang Leikai, Imphal West district, was arrested from Sagolsem Lampak at Langthabal Kunja Mayai Leikai under Singjamei Police Station.

He was allegedly involved in extortion activities.

One mobile phone, a side bag, and some cash were seized from him.

Meanwhile, on May 13, police recovered seven stolen or snatched vehicles during a special drive targeting ah-ti-social elements.
