Women protesters storm I/W DC Complex

A large number of members from All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) on Friday stormed the Imphal West Deputy Commissioner (DC) Complex, Lamphelpat demanding immediate implementation of National Food Security Act in the State.
The Centre introduced the National Food Security Act in 2013 with an aim to provide low cost rice to the public and asked all States to implement it.
After the women protesters held a meeting at Naoremthong Community Hall at around 1 pm, they marched towards Imphal West DC Complex shouting slogans demanding implementation of Food Security Act in Manipur.
The AMNM members latter submitted a six-point memorandum to the DC.
The memorandum demanded to implement the National Food Security Act in Manipur with immediate effect.
It demanded the Government to provide food items at subsidized rate and keep the essential commodities under Government's control.
The memorandum also demanded to take immediate measures to curb unnecessary price rise, illegal business activities and to hold regular meeting of Chamber of Commerce.
The AMNM also urged the Government to allow civil society organizations to monitor prices of essential commodities.
AMNM, Imphal West District Council president Sakhi said that National Food Security Act was launched by the Government in 2013 for providing 35 kg of rice at Rs 2. But the people are not getting the benefit till today, added Sakhi.
