Two involved in IED blast arrested

Thoubal, September 14 2022: A combined team of Thoubal Police and 16 Assam Rifles apprehended two cadres of the proscribed People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak - Progressive (PREPAK-Pro), who were involved in the IED blast at Ushoipokpi Samgomshang under Lilong PS on January 5, wherein one AR personnel was killed.

The two arrested cadres have been identified as Md Sanajaoba (25) s/o (L) Md Siraj Ahamad of Urup Awang Leikai, Imphal East and Oinam Amitkumar Singh alias Naobi (21) s/o O Khogen of Top Khongnang Mak-hong, Imphal East.

Parading the two cadres in front of newspersons at Thoubal District Police Headquarters on Wednesday, SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam informed that on receipt of reliable input from 16 AR regarding the presence of one PREPAK (PRO) cadre in Khongjom area on Tuesday at around 4.30 pm, a combined team of CDO Unit Thoubal and 16 AR conducted frisking and checking at Khongjom Papal Lamkhai.

During the operation, the combined team arrested Md Sanajaoba around 5.30 pm.

On questioning, Sanajaoba disclosed that he, along with another cadre named Oinam Amitkumar Singh carried out the IED blast at Lilong Ushoipokpi on January 5 under the instructions of the banned outfit's chairman S Paliba.

As a follow up action, the joint team arrested Oinam Amitkumar from his residence at Top Khongnang Makhong at around 7.30 pm, and seized 3 mobile phones and Rs 35,500 in cash from his possession.

The arrested cadres along with the seized articles have been handed over to Lilong PS in connection with FIR, the SP conveyed and appealed to all concerned not to engage in such anti-social acts.

The press briefing was also attended by Addl SP O Wangkhomba, 16 AR Major Rahul and CDO Thoubal OC Inspector Nitaranjan.
