Awareness on 'Save Amur Falcon' held in Tamenglong

Western Forest Division, Tamenglong in collaboration with Rainforest Club Tamenglong on Tuesday organized a one-day awareness camp on "Save Amur Falcon" at Dailong Village Reangaan of Tamenglong District.
The programmed was graced by Dr Chambo Gonmei, Honorary Wildlife Warden, Tamenglong as Chief Guest and Keijinbui Gonmei, Chairman, Dailong village authority graced as president of the function.
Dr RK Brijit Singh, Ornithologist and Kh Hitler, RO, Western Forest Division, Tamenglong spoke on the occasion as resource persons of the one day awareness camp.
As many as 80 people attended the programme.
The first awareness campaign on conservation of Amur Falcon (Akhuaipuina) started at Dailong Village Raengaan of Tamenglong District in 2012 attended by all the villagers.
"This beautiful migratory bird from Siberia and Mongolia comes to Tamenglong District of Manipur to spend winter holiday during last week of October to November every.
After spending for some weeks, they travel back to Africa.
We want the people of Tamenglong to welcome the birds warm heartedly.
They are tourists traveling more than 22,000 km to and fro.
These beautiful guests should be treated and make them feel at home.
It is sad that many of the villagers are ignorant and they kill them and eat them", Dr Chambo said.
He further said the Rainforest Club Tamenglong is determined to prevent such wanton killings and spread awareness to the people to conserve not only this particular raptor but also other birds and animals.
