3rd Korean Studies Workshop begins

A three-day long 3rd Korean Studies Workshop for educators of northeast India was inaugurated at the Court Hall of Manipur University on Friday.
Organised under the sponsorship of Korea KF Foundation, the inaugural function of the workshop was attended by MU Vice Chancellor Prof N Lokendra; Ambassador of Republic of Korea in India Chang Jae-bok via video Conference; University and Higher Education Manipur director Dr Rangitabali Waikhom; Korean Association in North East India chairman Seonghee Ham and Dean of Humanities, MU Prof N Aruna as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Department of Foreign Languages (Korean), MU head Prof S Imoba observed that with increasing number of Manipur students learning the Korean Language, South Korea has also begun providing additional opportunities to Korean language students in MU.
Prof S Imoba stated that the Korean Studies Workshop is being organised in universities across India and other countries having Korean language learning centre, with the objective of promoting the language and interaction among the language enthusiasts.
As the students studying Korean language in Manipur University are able to grasp the language at a faster rate, Korea is also providing scholarships to the exemplary students including providing job placements at different Korean companies.
In her speech, Workshop director and Department of Foreign Language (Korean), MU visiting Prof Hyunkyung Lee said that many people from Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland are taking part in the workshop.
She then said that the people of northeast India love Korean language and the number of learners is quite high, while adding that the historical, cultural, economic and educational relationship between Korea and India will be discussed during the workshop.
Later, students of Department of Foreign Language (Korean), MU presented performances of Korean traditional music, dance, song and fan dance during the inaugural function.
