Govt looking to extend retirement age for AWWs, AWHs: Dingo

Social welfare minister H Dingo has said that the state cabinet discussed the long standing demand of Anganwadi workers and helpers to increase their retirement age and government is exploring feasibilities of implementing the same.
Dingo disclosed this during the presentation of 2nd state level Indon Mai-pakpi Memorial Best Anganwadi Centre Award-2024 organised jointly by state social welfare department and Indon Maipakpi Memorial Trust.
Addressing gathering at the event held at Panchayat Bhavan, Porompat, minister H Dingo said the role played by Anganwadi workers and helpers for the society is enormous and people still remember their role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the ongoing violence too, Anganwadi workers and helpers are playing active role, and people should acknowledge their role, he said.
He also urged the Anganwadi workers and helpers to continue their service to the people with dedication.
According to the minister, Anganwadi workers and helpers work at the grassroots level and accordingly have closer relation with the people and understand their inconveniences and lacunae.
Government too fully understands the role of Anganwadi workers and helpers, but unable to take up welfare programmes due to financial constraint.
Nevertheless, the government will always stand for Anganwadi workers and helpers and try to fulfil their demands, he assured.
Social welfare director Ng Uttam, who also attended the event, said Indon Maipakpi Memorial Best Anganwadi Centre Award was confined to Thoubal district alone in the past, but it was upgraded to state level since the past two years.
The award is being given to encourage Anganwadi workers and helpers working in the grassroots level, he added.
During the event, Anganwadi worker Chandam Thoibi Devi and helper Wahengbam Bidyarani of Keibi Kumuda Anganwadi Centre were presented first prize of Indon Maipakpi Memorial Best Anganwadi Centre Award-2024 while second prize was given to Pourabi Awang Leikai Anganwadi worker Moirangthem Chandrima Chanu and helper Haobam Minakumari.
The third prize was given to worker Umarani Devi and helper Ningthoujam Rakhi Devi of Pourabi Awang-wadi Centre.
