Imphal, September 12 2024:
Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) president Lourembam Nganbi observed that the public are well aware of the drama being played by the government but are reluctant to expose the same out of fear of government reprisal.
Speaking at the 19 foundation day of Salai Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup at Singjamei Chingamakha on Thursday, Nganbi asserted that the people will fully back chief minister N Biren in case he works for the welfare of the people but none would support him if he remains subservient to the central government.
Similar to the previous as well as recent drama by the chief minister to tender resignation not impressing the people, the central government should not take for granted that people of Manipur would continue to tolerate repressive and divisive policies as the people are still nursing the wound of forcible merger into India, she cautioned.
Nganbi also stated that as MLAs and ministers perceive people of Manipur cannot live without the help of India, the central government is suppressing and disregarding the people.
As both state and central governments have failed to take firm and decisive action against Kuki militants who launched attacks using rockets and drone bombs, time has come for the masses to assert their rights, she exhorted.
In his address, senior advocate Khaidem Mani cautioned of uncontrollable protests if attempts are made to disrupt the integrity of Manipur by keeping N Biren as the namesake CM simitar to signing of the merger agreement by the then king Maharaj Bodhchandra under duress.
The foundation day celebration was also attended by Poirei Leimarol Manipur Apunba Meira president S Memcha Devi, Salai Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup president Th Ibethoi and MU Department of Southeast Asia head Prof Chinglen Meisnam.
