Governor Dr Najma Heptulla has conveyed her best wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Patriot's Day, which falls on August 13.In her message, Dr Najma said "this day reminds us of our heroic forefathers like Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General, Chirai Naga, Pukhrambam Kajao, Niranjan Subedar and other martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice for the freedom of Manipur".
Stating that their indomitable spirit and love for freedom were unparalleled, the Governor urged all to pledge to stand and fight as one against all those who challenge the freedom and integrity of the Nation.
While paying homage to the fallen heroes of Anglo Manipur War 1891, Chief Minister N Biren greeted the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of Patriot's Day.
Patriot's Day reminds us of the supreme sacrifices made by our forefathers in defending the sovereignty of Manipur in the Anglo Manipur War 1891 and on this day Yuvraj Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General were hanged at Pheidapung (now Bir Tikendrajit Park), read a message of N Biren.
The CM also said that the present generation should not forget the highest act of patriotism displayed by "our forefathers" and appealed all to work tirelessly to contribute in the development of the State.
Manipur Legislative Assembly, Speaker Yumnam Khemchand too greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion and urged all to imbibe the spirit of the great heroes who sacrificed their lives while fighting the mighty British in Anglo Manipuri War 1891.Works Minister Th Biswajit also extended his best wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Patriot's Day.
Stating that it was the disunity in Manipur which led to the British invasion, the Minister appealed all to stand united and fight firmly against any challenges to the freedom and integrity of the Nation.
MAHUD Minister Th Shyamkumar wished the people of the State on the occasion of the Patriot's Day 2019, The Minister said that the day is observed to mark the supreme sacrifice made by Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General on August 13, 1891.On the occasion of Patriot's Day, Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen too paid her tribute and respect to all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during Anglo Manipur War of 1891.She then urged all to always stand for peace, unity and harmony, irrespective of caste, creed or religion for the integrity, welfare and development of the State and country as a whole.
