Anti-Malaria Month begins

The observance of Anti-Malaria Month kicked-off at the Conference Hall of Kuki Inpi in Saikul town, Senapati district on Saturday.
Organised by Manipur State Vector Borne Disease Control Society, the opening ceremony of the Anti-Malaria Month observation was attended by IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip as chief guest, NVBDCP Manipur State Malaria Officer Dr T Zamkhokam Kuki as president while MLA of Saikul A/C Yamthong Haokip, Regional Director of ROH and FW Dr LA Singh and Chief Medical Officer of Senapati district Dr Loli Mao as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr LA Singh pointed out that Tripura and Mizoram are the States in the North East which have recorded highest number of patients suffering from malaria.
He informed that currently Manipur has registered lowest number of malaria patients among the NE States.
DR LA Singh further informed that the Government of India is planning to provide round-the-clock medical facilities to people by 2017 and at the same time the Government is hoping to eradicate the disease at the maximum level by 2017 .
However, Ngamthang Haokip maintained that higher cases of malaria are prevailing particularly in the hill areas of the State.
The State Government should provide mosquito nets and other insect repellents to the people of the hill where adequate medical facilities are not available, and that regular fogging is also needed to ward off malaria, he added.
