Imphal, April 12 2013 :
People for Animal, Thouhal, along with a team of Nongpok Sekmai PS took over a displaced Slow Loris which was found on the road at Ukhongsang Mamang Leikai on April 11 .
According to a statement of PFA Thoubal, the Nongpok Sekmai PS informed PFA that a displaced Slow Loris was found on a road at Ukhongshang Mamang Leikai by one Th Thoibi Singh of the same village.
At around 8pm PFA members along with a police team led by 2nd OC, SI Md Hifjur Rahman searched for the location and took over the Loris.
Th Thoibi Singh told PFA that he came across the loris while on his way to take part in a Thabalchongba on April 10.This is the third Loris rescued by personnel of the PS.
Multiple encounters of displaced Bengal Slow Loris in Manipur by human being indicated that the natural habitats of the slow loris were adversely affected due to mass deforestation and jungle fire of hillocks.
In some cases the loris were caught from dense forests and rescued again from the hunters, the PFA said.
Lost of forest and eco-friendly animals like loris could expose the people to ecological grief shortly, it cautioned.
