Imphal, December 11 2024:
Senior CPI leader L Sotinkumar has slammed the BJP-led government, stating that failure of the government has left the indigenous people of the state living like refugees in their own land.
Speaking at the 'protest and demand day' organised by the CPI Manipur State Council in connection with International Human Rights Day at Irawat Bhawan on Tuesday, Sotinkumar highlighted the plight of the people amidst the ongoing crisis.
The situation in the state is like a concentration camp, he said, pointing to the indigenous Meetei community's condition.
"Members of the community are living like a refugee in their own land, as evidenced by the numerous relief camps set up across the state.
It is like being trapped in quicksand," rued Sotinkumar, while attributing the dire situation to the government's failure to act against terror activities committed by Chin-Kuki-narco-terrorists.
He further criticised the BJP government for failing to uphold the fundamental right to life for the common people.
Holding the BJP government accountable tor the situation, he contended that the government's inaction and continued wait for signals from the Centre will not bring any solutions.
He also accused the BJP government of negligence and lack of accountability while affirming that the CPI has been actively protesting against the failures of the BJP government and vowed to continue raising these issues until concrete actions are taken.
CPI is organising similar protests across all state capitals, demanding an urgent resolution to the Manipur crisis, discussion of the issue in Parliament, formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) and an inquiry into the concessions granted to Adani by the Modi government.
The party is also calling for an end to privatisation, he affirmed.
Sotinkumar said that although International Human Rights Day was adopted in 1948, people of Manipur have been deprived of their fundamental rights for more than seven decades.
He stated that the crisis, which began on May 3 last year, has pushed the state to the brink of perpetual conflict, threatening its integrity.
