Kangpokpi, November 11 2024:
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) leaders met Director General of Police (DGP) at Kangpokpi town Monday and submitted a three-point memorandum.
According to CoTU leaders, the DGP called on them to discuss the prevailing law and order situation in the district.
The leaders commended Kangpokpi SP Manoj Prabhakar for his tireless endeavours to maintain law and order in the district, and conveyed urgent concerns to the DGP.
Emphasising the need for immediate action on three critical issues confronting the Kuki-Zo community in the Kangpokpi district, CoTU spokesperson Ng Lun Kipgen said demands were raised to prevent settlement of Meetei insurgents in Kuki-Zo territories, establishment of a police station in Phailengmol area and exercise neutrality by security forces.
Lun Kipgen said that the DGP was conveyed about establishment of camps of Meetei-dominated insurgent organisations in Kangchup Patjang, Saibol, Vohkongjang, S Bongjang, Ingourok and Phailengjang areas and demanded immediate dismantling of the camps.
He said that any attempt to settle insurgents within or on the periphery of Kuki-Zo villages would only heighten risk of violence and instability in the areas.
The DGP was also urged to establish a police station in Kamu-Saichang and Phailengmol areas in Island block for more effective monitoring by Kangpokpi district police.
