UPRFM imposes shutdown on Aug 15

Imphal, August 11 2022: Boycotting celebration of India's Independence Day in Manipur, the armed United People's Revolutionary Front Manipur (UPRFM) has announced total shutdown on August 15 from 6am till 6pm.The shutdown, however, will not cover emergency services, religious ceremonies and media, a statement of UPRFM said and appealed to people to support and endorse the shutdown.

According to the UPRFM statement, celebration of India's Independence Day in Manipur has no meaning and Kanglei (Manipur) people should not take part in any event related with the celebration.

While recalling historical events, the outfit said that India has no connection whatsoever with Manipur be it in administration, economy and other sectors as India is a new country formed in 1947 while Manipur has written history of more than 2000 years.

The outfit also said that Manipur got independence one day ahead of India on August 14, 1947 and had its own Constitution and conducted adult franchise before India had its own Constitution and conducted election.
