Martyrdom anniversary of Saheed Madhumangal observed

Imphal, February 11 2024:
The 29th martyrdom anniversary observance of Saheed Madhumangal organised by Saheed Madhumangal Foundation, Imphal was held at the auditorium of JN Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal on Sunday.
Former vice-chancellor of Manipur University, ex-MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, MU VC professor N Lokendra, and Foundation president A Brajakumar attended the event as presidium members.
Remembering the martyr on the occasion, ex-MLA Dr Ng Bijoy said that Saheed Modhumangal was born on October 22, 1938 and was the first mining graduate of the state.
He retired as an additional director on June 22, 1984 .
After his retirement, he joint politics and served as president of BJP Manipur Pradesh from 1985 to 1990 .
He had also remained as national executive committee members of the party, and secretary of BJP Northeast States Coordination Council (1993) .
He relentlessly worked for motivating the party members from the grassroots level during his stint in the party, he said.
The ex-MLA further said that he was active members of RSS and VHP, and participated in various social and cultural activities since 1950s.He also served jail term for 18 months in 1976-77 for his involvement in activities of Sangh Samiti under the leadership of Jaiprakash Narayan.
He contested Lok Sabha election on BJP ticket in 1989 and 1991, but lost both elections.
He also worked in different NGOs and CSOs with the hope of uplifting the status of the common people.
He passed away on February 11, 1995, and today his works are remembered fondly by the society, he added.
A souvenir was also released as part of the occasion.
