Man jailed over wife's death

Imphal, September 10 2024: In connection with the death of one Khundrakpam Anandi at her husband's house on September 2, court of Imphal West CJM remanded her husband Laishram Bijoy to judicial custody on Tuesday.

According to a case registered by Singjamei police station, Bijoy (30), son of Ibohalbi of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai, was arrested and produced before the CJM on Tuesday with a prayer for judicial custody of the accused husband.

The IO of the case reported that Khundrakpam Khogen, father of the deceased, was informed about his daughter found hanging in the bathroom and rushed to Asian hospital on September 2 around 6 pm.

Based on the conveyance, Khogen and hiswife rushed to the hospital, where they found their daughter lying unconscious, with the doctors later declaring her dead.

Suspecting foul play, Khogen filed a complaint report at Singjamei police station, requesting thorough investigation into circumstances leading to his daughter's unnatural death.

Following the report, Laishram Bijoy, the husband of Anandi, was taken into.custody and questioned during which he reportedly revealed to have had a fight with Anandi on the same day of the incident after which she went to the bathroom, locking the door from inside.

As family members tried to open the door, Anandi's son alerted the elders of discovering her hanging, elaborated the IO, adding that Bijoy claimed to have lost consciousness on hearing about the hanging and realised that his wife was no more after gaining consciousness at the hospital.

After hearing report of the IO, the court remanded the accused Bijoy to judicial custody for 15 days till September 24.During the hearing, a group of people from the deceased's family attempted to storm the Cheirap court complex, demanding that the accused be handed over to thein.

However, security personnel quickly gained control of the situation by locking the main gate, preventing any further escalation.

Later, JAC formed in connection with death of Khundrakpam Ningol Laishram Ongbi Anandi formed human chain in front of Imphal West DC complex demanding justice for Anandi and not to hand over her body to her in-laws but to the maternal family for her last rites.
