Imphal, April 10 2022:
Apex Body on Khurai Chingangbam Leikai Water Supply Scheme, a joint organisation of seven clubs covered by the water supply scheme, has appealed to the government, department concerned and CSOs to look into the non-completion of the scheme due to a land dispute.
Addressing a press meet held at Unity Club, Kongpal Kongkham Leikai on Sun day, Apex Body convener Mayanglangbam Ton pointed out that the construction of water supply scheme has stopped due to claims made by a private organisation that they are the land owners of the site where the scheme is being set up.
He noted that the scheme is being constructed under Jal Shakti Mission by the state government to provide potable water to people in five localities namely Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai, Kongpal Kongkham Leikai, Kongpal Khaidem Leikai, Kongpal Ningthoubung Leikai and Khurai Chingangbam Leikai which have remained unconnected for the last 40 years.
M Ton informed that 99 per cent of construction work for the water supply scheme has been completed and it has reached trial stage, but due to land dispute the work has completely stopped.
This delay has worried the people of the five localities that they may not get potable water supply.
The Apex Body has repeatedly requested the private owners to withdraw their claims but to no avail, he said and appealed all concerned to help in expeditious completion of the vital project.
M Ton also mentioned that on investigating the matter, the Apex Body found that the government had cancelled the 'patta' of the said private body in 2019 while claiming that documents of the said site are in its possession.
He thus appealed to the government, department concerned and CSOs to probe the matter and complete construction of the water supply scheme.
