KSS Week, Kisan Mela begin in Chandel

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Chandel has launched Krishi Swarna Samriddhi Week (KSSW) and Technology Week cum Kisan Mela on Monday.
The 5-day event is aimed at supporting farmers through workshops, training, animal health camps, technology showcases, and more in the agriculture and allied sectors.
The event seeks to promote sustainable agricultural practices and livelihood enhancement for the farming community.
Joint director (agriculture) Ts Gladny Monsang attended the inaugural programme as the chief guest, while district horticulture officer Khagok-pam Sundeep Singh as the guest of honour.
Subject matter specialist (Agronomy) and head incharge of ICAR-KVK, Chandel Dr Khumlo Levish highlighted the importance of KSSW celebrations as part of the golden jubilee of KVKs nationwide.
She emphasised the pivotal role KVKs play in supporting farmers to ensure food and livelihood security.
Ts Gladny also congratulated KVK on its golden jubilee and commended the joint efforts of KVK and the district agriculture office in supporting the farming community.
She encouraged farmers to adopt scientific technologies and emphasised the importance of sustainable crop production.
Meanwhile, Khagokpam Sundeep lauded the farmers for their sincerity, hard work, and contributions to the agriculture sector while also shedding light on'various schemes under horticulture and soil conservation.
As part of the KSSW activities, participants attended a series of programmes, including agricultural exhibitions, seminars, and a lecture on vermicomposting as a tool for enhancing farmers' incomes and promoting sustainable crop production.
Additionally, an awareness session on Kisan Sarathi portal was conducted.
The portal offers multilingual advisories for farmers covering agriculture, horticulture, fishery, and animal husbandry.
The programme was attended by ICAR-KVK, Chandel staff members Dr K Sonamani (SMS, Agricultural Engineering), Ts Leenda Monsang (SMS, Plant Breeding), and Ps Lavid Anal (SMS, Horticulture) .
A total of 105 participants engaged in the sessions and activities.
