Thadou bodies hold consultation on varied issues

In connection with the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Councils Sixth and Seventh Amendment Bill 2022, Manipur Panchayati Raj Act 1994, Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873, Manipur Inner Line Permit Guidelines 2019, several resolutions were adopted in a consultative meeting held under the aegis of Thadou Inpi-General Headquarters and its constituent bodies on Tuesday.
The consultative meeting organised by Thadou In pi-GHQ, the apex body of the Thadou tribe, and its constituent bodies was attended by village chiefs, youth club leaders, former members of autonomous district councils (ADCs), social workers, non-government organisations, and all stakeholders.
The meeting discussed in detail the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Councils Sixth and Seventh Amendment Bill 2022, Manipur Panchayati Raj Act 1994, Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873 and Manipur Inner Line Permit Guidelines 2019 as these issues are sensitive and are of great concern to the future of the tribal people.
After submitting views and comments, the consul tative meeting unanimously resolved to constitute an "Expert Committee" to study deeply into the laws involved in the evolving issues.
As per the meeting, the expert committee shall be constituted by the Thadou Inpi-GHQ along with the terms of reference immediately and thereupon, the committee shall within four weeks finalise its findings and observations together with the Thadou Inpi-GHQ and its constituent bodies and submit reports to all members of the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) and to Manipur chief minister, who is also the leader of the House, 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
It also resolved to protect, preserve and promote the rights of the tribal/schedule tribes and reaffirm to not compromise what is enshrined in the constitution of India.
The consultative meeting also appealed to all civil societies' organisations and stakeholders in the state of Manipur to maintain peace and harmony in the days to come.
