Imphal, October 08 2024:
The 10-day film production workshop organised by Manipur State Film and Television Institute concluded at its Palace Compound office, here, on Tuesday.
The workshop had Prof Prasenjit Ghosh, who is head of Department of Film & Television, Satyajit Ray Film & television Institute director Alexander Leo Pou, consultant Boby Waikhom and film makers of the state as resource persons.
During the valedictory function, participants with extensive knowledge on film industry shared that filmmaking in Manipur began around 1970, and the first digital film produced in 2002 .
Due to dedication of filmmakers, Manipuri films have gained recognition at international, national and regional levels, earning numerous awards.
However, despite presence of talented filmmakers in the state, a dedicated film institute was not established until 2016, when the Manipur State Film & Television Institute (MSFTI) was founded.
Regrettably, while the Cultural University established in the same year flourished, the MSFTI remains underdeveloped, facing significant shortages in staff and infrastructure.
Participants expressed hope that the institute gets fully operational and evolved into a thriving film industry.
