AMWJU founder member N Deven no more

Founder member of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and veteran journalist Nongmaithem Deven, who was popularly known as 'Khollao Deben', breathed his last around 10 am Thursday at his Keishampat Leimajam Leikai residence here.
Seventy five years old Deven, who had been unwell for the last few months, left behind his wife and four children.
Chief minister N Biren condoled the demise of N Deven.
Recounting that Deven was a noted journalist who worked in different newspapers in various capacities during his career spanning around four decades since 1970s, the CM said: "In his death our state and the media fraternity have lost an upright journalist".
The CM also shared grief of the bereaved family.
Members of AMWJU and Editors' Guild, senior journalists, CPI and CPM also mourned the demise of Deven during a joint condolence meeting held at Manipur Press Club, paid floral tributes to his mortal remains and observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
N Deven was the joint editor of 'Khollao' daily in 1969 and took vital roles in the formation of AMWJU in 1974.Later on, he continued his professional journey, working in several local dai lies including Huiyen Lanpao, Imphal Free Press and Yakairol.
Speaking during the condolence meeting, AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shyamjai remembered 'Ta Deben' as not only a journalist but reflected on his roles in bringing up the union to what it is today.
In its condolence message, CPI Manipur State Council informed that N Deven was not only the editor of local daily 'Khollao' but also CPI, MSC Keishamthong local council secretary and state councillor.
The veteran journalist was also secretary of Manipur Press Club and AMWJU.
While stating that he remained dedicated to the party despite his poor health, CPI Manipur State Council said that his demise has left a void in the party.
Members of the party led by state secretary L Thoiren attended the condolence meeting organised by AMWJU at Manipur Press Club, it added.
