Counter-blockade launched along NH-2

Chemist and Druggist Association of Kangpokpi District (CDAKD) has launched a counter-blockade on National Highway 2 from Thursday in response to alleged blockade by valley-based organisations restricting supply of pharmaceutical goods, including life-saving drugs, to Kangpokpi district since May 3, 2023 .
Earlier, CDAKD had warned of imposing counter-blockade if restrictions on pharmaceutical transport were not lifted within July 31.Despite the warning, the Association contended that the blockade persisted, forcing to take direct action.
CDAKD volunteers set up checkpoint at Bong-moul village under Champhai sub-division along NH-2 and intercepted two trucks en route to Imphal, seized substantial quantities of pharmaceutical supplies, including crucial life-saving medicines.
CDAKD general secretary David said, "The unlawful blockade of pharmaceutical supplies and life-saving drugs by certain valley-based organisations caused severe shortages in Kangpokpi district, putting countless lives at risk.
Our counter-blockade is a necessary measure to ensure that essential medicines reach the district" .
Meanwhile, in an effort to address the ongoing blockade of pharmaceutical supplies, Kangpokpi district administration convened a meeting with representatives of the CDAKD at the DCs office on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Association, the nearly 3-hour meeting was attended by the Kangpokpi deputy commissioner and the Superintendent of police with both assuring to take necessaiy steps to ensure uninterrupted delivery of pharmaceutical supplies.and life-saving drugs to the district.
They also committed to extend all possible assistance to the stockists in Kangpokpi.
Following the assurances, CDAKD agreed to release the seized pharmaceutical supplies bound for the valley.
