Imphal, February 08 2025:
The Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) extended revolutionary greetings to the people on the occasion of the 38th Raising Day of its military wing, Manipur People's Army (MPA) falling on Sunday (February 9).According to a statement of Military Affairs Committee (MAC) of Pambei-led UNLF, MPA was established on February 9, 1987 to strengthen the movement for restoration of the lost sovereignty of the people of Manipur and it has completed 38 years now.
Extending revolutionary salute to martyred party leaders and MPA cadres on the occasion, the MAC also shared pain and grief of all those who have been disabled due to torture by Indian security forces and those who were forcibly disappeared.
While recalling challenges faced by MPA cadres during the initial phase of its formation, the MAC statement issued by publicity director Th Charairongba said MPA started armed campaign against Indian security forces from the early part of 1990s as part of the liberation movement to regain the lost sovereignty of the people of Manipur.
Accordingly, MPA fought many battles with the security forces and people of Manipur were the witnesses to the success of MPA fighter in such battles.
'Armed campaign' of MPA started giving severe impact to the Government of India (Gol) from the beginning of 2000 .
There were more than 50 battles between MPA and Indian security forces between the year 2003 and 2009, and most of the battles were mainly fought in Sajik Tampaak, Khengjoy hill ranges, Somtal and Molcham in Chandel district and in Churachandpur areas (presently Pherzawl).
Those battles strengthened the position of UNLF/MPA and managed to establish liberated zones at several areas while the Gol could not conceal the battles before the global people.
The battles also showcased that Manipur-India conflict is not simply a law and order problem but a clear 'national contradiction' and political conflict between Manipur and India, the MAC said adding that the present 'political dialogue' is a result of India's approach to the party.
While claiming that the UNLF/MPA fought around 200 battles with Indian security forces since launching the 'armed campaign', the MAC statement said that around 330 MPA fighters and around 27 local volunteers sacrificed their lives so far.
Many personnel of security forces were killed in MPA's 'armed campaign' and casualties on their side exceeds from that of MPA, the MAC claimed.
Apart from 'armed campaign', the UNLF/MPA also initiated 'social reformation' campaign to bring the society in Manipur to the right path and people extended full support to the campaign thereby giving the organisation proper space in the society.
It would be wrong to think that the organisation entered into 'political dialogue' with the Government of India owing to organisation's weakening strength or sold-out of liberation movement.
In fact, it was a step taken to bring an honourable solution to the prolonged Manipur-India conflict and UNLF/MPA will never compromise on its goal of regaining sovereignty of Manipur.
