Imphal, July 07 2018:
Manipur Muslim Welfare Organization (MMWO) has strongly reacted against the statement made by Alliance for Socialist Unity, Kangleipak (ASUK) today saying the whole Meitei Pangals have been misrepresented by the statement although the community has been actively helping in protecting the State's integrity and interest since time immemorial.
Addressing a press meet held today at its office, MMWO Head Quarter vice president SK Wajid Shah decried that the Meitei Pangal community has been extremely shocked and disturbed by the statement made by ASUK through media today.
He claimed that despite the fact that the Meitei Pangal community has been actively participating in all the affairs which are in the interest of the State, such as ILP movement, integrity issue of Manipur and so on; the said community has often been attacked indirectly by some individuals and organizations.
The Meitei Pangals have been residing in the State with all other indigenous communities and as the siblings of Meiteis since the ancient days, he said.
Meitei Pangal community has their own unique identity, culture, food habits and many other values which are very different from the rest of the Muslims living in other parts of the world.
Hence, it would be wrong to differentiate Meitei Pangals in the name of religion and misrepresent the whole of the community due to the wrong doings of some individual from the community.
There is a Meitei Pangal as a member in the drafting committee of JCILPS at present.
The Meitei Pangals has so far stood for a united Manipur and has been working in the same interest for the State.
Meitei Pangals have very limited land area in few districts of the valley districts, such as Lilong, Phoubakchao, Yairipok, Hatta, Khergao, Sekmaijin, Kwakta etc and therefore there is no space to bring in Muslim people from Bangladesh, Myanmar or elsewhere.
Most people in the community are backward and have been thinking only for getting daily bread, he claimed.
At such pitiful situation, how can community think of adopting other people, Wajid Shah contended while stating that the decline of Meitei Pangals' population in the latest census report is solid evidence.
He also informed that the Meitei Pangal organizations in the State are also committing towards preventing the incessant influx of immigrants in the State and further declared that the said organizations will take pivotal role in identifying the illegal immigrants in the State, including in Meitei Pangal dominated areas.
The vice president also declared that MMWO and other organizations of Meitei Pangal will not spare anyone in the community if he/she is found hiding or supporting any illegal immigrants.
However, the organizations cannot take responsible for the matter in places where Meitei Pangals have not settled since early times, such as in hills.
He then appealed to all to participate in the observance of the third death anniversary of Sapam Robinhood that will be held tomorrow.
