Ukhrul, November 06 2023:
Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) is organising a peace rally in support of the ongoing Indo-Naga political talks on November 8 in Ukhrul town.
During a press conference at its Hamleikhong office, here, on Monday, TKS vice-president Omry Ningshen announced that the proposed peace rally would commence at 10 am from two points: Dungrei Junction and Kharasom Junction.
Ningshen highlighted the objective of the rally, stating that the students of the district aim to raise their voices collectively for two reasons.
"We demand the Centre to expedite the Indo-Naga peace process based on the Framework Agreement, and we also want to reaffirm that the negotiations led by the collective leadership under the banner of NSCN/GPRN have the mandate of the Naga people," he emphasised.
On behalf of the Saklong, Ningshen appealed to all concerned Naga citizens to participate in this peace rally in unity.
Ningshen further related that the first political Organisation of the Nagas in the form of Naga Club was established back in 1918 before India attained independence.
However, despite India's independence for more than seven decades, a lasting solution to the Indo-Naga conflict is still pending.
"Two ceasefire agreements between India and Naga, one in 1964 and another in 1997 meant to facilitate dialogue and negotiation, have not resulted in a positive conclusion to date.
The Naga people continue to hope for a peaceful and just settlement to their long standing issues," he said.
He lamented that the Naga political journey has been marked by tears, sweat, blood, and significant sacrifices in terms of lives and property.
However, the determination to achieve their initial goals has never wavered.
Notably, the negotiation process after the second ceasefire resulted in significant advancement in understanding and ultimately led to the signing of the "Framework Agreement" on August 3, 2015, by the representatives of both India and the Naga.
"While the Naga people anxiously await a resolution, there are forces both internal and external diligently working to create confusion and disunity within the Naga family.
In these challenging times, it is imperative for concerned Naga individuals to unite collectively and speak in unison," he pleaded.
He asserted that the moment has arrived for the Nagas to demonstrate their solidarity and collectively assert the need to expedite the peace process for the Indo-Naga issue based on the "Framework Agreement," which is honourable and acceptable to both parties.
"It is also a time to reaffirm that the negotiations led by the collective leadership under the banner of NSCN/GPRN carry the unequivocal mandate of the Naga people,"
he added.
