Governor La Ganesan, chief minister N Biren, Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Y Khemchand and Consumers Affairs, Food & Public Distribution minister Th Satyabrata have greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of Mera Chaoren Houba, which falls on October 7, as well as Navratri celebration.
The Governor, in his message, said the traditional festival of Mera Chaoren Houba centred on preserving and promoting unity and integrity amongst all the communities settled in Manipur is celebrated on the advent of Meratha (September-October).
This festival through the ages has withstood the test of time and has become a rallying point for the state's unity and integrity, the Governor said and appealed to the people to celebrate this festival in its true spirit, upholding the tradition of peaceful co-existence in Manipur's pluralistic society.
He also extended heartiest greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of Navaratri and urged the people to celebrate the 9-day festival with devotion and spend time on introspection and character building.
The Governor stressed that the 9-day period should serve as a reminder to see divinity in each individual human being especially the girl child.
In his message, CM Biren said that Mera Chaoren Houba is an ancient religious festival, dedicated to Lainingthou Sanamahi and Leimarel Sidabi.
This festival brings back the age-old tradition of love, brotherhood and sol idarity between the hills and the valley in Manipur, he said, and expressed that the festival will strengthen the bond of unity, integrity and fraternity among all the communities.
Speaker Khemchand and minister Satyabrata in their messages also prayed and hoped Mera Chaoren Houba brings good health, prosperity and unity to the people of Manipur.
