Jiribam district has been experiencing intense rainfall from Monday evening.
On the other hand, landslide triggered by continuous heavy rainfall since Monday night damaged a house in Bishnupur district's Thanga Chingmei Makha Leikai belonging to one Ningthoujam Rajen (43), son of (late) N Manimohon around 4:15 am.
At the time of the disaster, Rajen with his family were sheltering elsewhere as a precaution against landslide as their house close to a hillock.
The landslide caused damages not only to the house but also destroyed household items like cupboards, beds, clothing, etc.
On the other-hand, at least two landslides that occurred due to incessant rainfall in the past few days halted movement of vehicles along the NH-37, thereby leaving many trucks mainly tankers stranded along the highway.
According to sources, loaded tankers and trucks coming towards Imphal from Jiribam early Tuesday morning with security escort got stranded for some hours in Kaiphundai area.
However, machineries of NH1DCL and district administration cleared the road and resumed traffic after some hours.
Another landslide occurred at a place between Tollen Kuki village and Shanti Khunou around 5pm Tuesday.
As the area is very close to the spot where Kuki militants attacked LPG bullet and fuel tankers on April 16 this year, security forces brought the tankers 5 km back from the said spot.
District administration has started clearance of the road with use of heavy machineries.
Notably, transportation of petroleum products in the state stopped for some days as petroleum transporters launched cease work strike against exorbitant extortions along the highway.
Transportation of petroleum products resumed on Tuesday after reaching an understanding with the government and accordingly started movement of fuel tankers from Jiribam to Imphal from Tuesday.
