Imphal, June 05 2013:
Education Minister M Okendro has urged the Principal of government colleges to bar students without requisite attendance from appearing examinations.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of biometric attendance system for college teachers at DM College of Science here today.
Education Minister further stated that many students who remain absent in the classes turn up only at the time of examinations.
Such a trend is a hindrance to achieving quality education in the State and the college authorities should take up measures to check students' attendance, he noted.
Okendro said that biometric attendance system has been installed in 16 colleges of the State.
A nodal officer at the Directorate of Education (U) would monitor the attendance of teachers through GPRS.
He also announced that regular principals would be appointed within three months and all other necessary infrastructures would be installed for the development of higher education system in the State.
Education Minister also inaugurated an ATM Booth of State Bank of India at the DM Campus today.
