Sit-in cum public discussion extends solidarity to ILP movement

Coming out in support of the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State to check influx of outsiders, a sit-in-protest cum public discussion on ILP system in Manipur was organized jointly by Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai Nupi Marup; Social Reformation & Development Club and Young Welfare Club at Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai Ima Lairembi Community Hall, Imphal West yesterday.
Sorokhaibam Achouba Singh, retd Under Secretary, Social Welfare Department and Thiyam Ibomcha, social worker graced the occasion as Chief Guest and President while Ngangbam Ibohal Singh, social worker and Leisangthem Ibobi Singh, social worker attended as Guests of Honor.
Locals and women folks of Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai and Langthabal Mantrikhong Makha Leikai along with students and teachers of Langthabal Nambul Mapal Junior High School participated in the sit-in cum public discussion.
Addressing the gathering as Resource Person, advocate Sukham Premjit who is also a member of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) said that Indian Constitution was framed with most of its provisions taken out from other countries and pointed out that there are also provisions under the Constitution for safeguarding the indigenous people by implementing certain acts like ILP system.
L Meghachandra, a social activist, who was also present during the protest, stated that there is an urgent need to enforce ILP system before the railway line in the State gets operational from 2017 as the number of outsiders entering the State will increase manifold after the completion of the railway project.
During the gathering, certain resolutions regarding implementation of ILP system in the State were adopted unanimously.
It resolved to implement the system within the end of the current year; endorse all kind of steps taken up by JCILPS to implement the system at the earliest and release advocate P Arjun, member of JCILPS unconditionally who was arrested by police in connection with the demand within September.
Furthermore, it resolved to bar entry of non-locals in Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai and Langthabal Mantrikhong Makha Leikai without the permission of local clubs and women folks.
