Ukhrul, August 04 2015:
Even as storms- triggered massive landslides have cut off different parts of Ukhrul district from the rest of the State, the whole district has been hit by frequent power outages due to stormy weather over the past few days.
The whole district has been hit by power interruptions since Thursday last after transmission wires got snapped due to friction during storms at Hundung village and from Saturday onward power supply has been going on and off with disturbing frequency.
Till Monday noon many mobile phone users could be seen making a beeline for quite a few numbers of shops in town where battery recharging was done using fuel fed generators by charging Rs.20 per device.
When contacted, Deputy General Manager, MSPDCL Ukhrul Division Ramthing Chamroy told Hueiyen Lanpao that heavy rains and storms have been affecting power supply since the last few days in the district.
"Soon after fixing wire snapping on July 30, there was overflow of current so the supply line had to be put off again the following day," he explained.
Then again on Sunday power supply was disrupted as certain technical troubles erupted at 132 KV MSPCL Imphal, adding that it was reported to be a glitch with system control equipments.
Around 3 pm power in the district was restored but with frequent interruptions.
A town resident Yangkahao wondered why there had been so much power outages here.
"The recurring problems need to be tackled on a long term basis," he opined.
