Imphal, April 04 2013: The recent release of a man who was arrested by police in connection with the drug seizure from Imphal airport by Court for lack of evidence is a matter of shame for the Police Department as well as the Government, remarked CLP senior member Y Erabot.

Erabot was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 1 st Chingoi Baruni Exhibition Football Tournament organised by the North East Youth Organisation, Sanjenbam at SADA ground, Sanjenbam.

He stated that people should never take the issue of smuggling drugs lightly.

Saying that Manipur has become a leading State in terms of smuggling drugs, Erabot noted that the problem of HIV/AIDS is a direct result of drug smuggling.

While lamenting that the Government is unable to bring out the real owner of the drug consignment seized from Imphal Airport.

Erabot nonetheless, lauded the roles shared by NGOs and Meira Paibis in tackling the issue of drugs and resultant problem of HIV/AIDS.

The exhibition match was played between North East Youth Organisation and Film Forum Manipur.
