Literature wealth of society: O Ibobi

Former chief minister O Ibobi has stated that the literature penned by writers highlighting both positives and negatives of society, shall be priceless wealth of the society in the future.
He made the statement while speaking as chief guest at the 24th foundation day celebration and prize distribution function of Leimarol Khorjeikol (LEIKOL) held at JN Manipur Dance Academy, here, on Thursday.
Stating that literature and culture are indispensable parts of human society, he acknowledged and commended the literary contributions of late MK Binodini, signifying that women play important role in society.
He also noted that writers play an important role in bringing changes to the society, their words holding tremendous power and responsibility.

impact of social media and financial issues constraining writers from publishing their works, the need to write with references to reform the society still holds importance.
Stating that the government needs to uplift the writers, Ibobi highlighted the contributions of renowned writers and personalities like MK Binodini, Ratan Thiyam and Shyam Charan.
The culture, literature and sports prowess of the state are its identifying assets.
This is not about criticising the government, but raising concerns over the dying culture of the state, he said, and stressed the importance of conserving the same.
LEIKOL president Kshetrimayum Subadini and Manipur Cultural Association president retired IAS Kangjam Radhakumar attended the event as president and guest of honour respectively.
During the function, Ibobi recited a poem of MK Binodini, followed by release of a book penned by Nahakpam Aruna, titled Ahingba Upanyas (Second Volume) .
Later, various prizes were distributed including presentation of the Thiyam Krish-nachandra Radheshakhi Award to Akendra Tensubam; Kshetrimayum Yaima and Thambal Ningsing Sahitya Mana to Moirengjam Dev (Subram); Maharajkumari Binodini Ningsing Sahitya Mana to Cha Khommei; Khaidem Pramodini Ningsing Sahitya Mani to Yengkhom Indira; Nepram Khilendrd Rajkumari Komlasana Sahitya Mani to Buddhichandra Heisamba; and Guruaribam Brajamani and Tombi Devi Sahitya Mana to Hanjabam Gokul Sharma.
The awards carry cash prize, citation and honorary shawl each.
