Imphal, August 03 2022:
Horticulture and Soil Conservation minister Letpao Haokip informed the state assembly that the seedlings of High Value (HV) crops are being distributed in the hill districts of the state, subject to compatibility with the respective locations.
Responding to the cut policy motion moved by opposition MLA Th Lokeshwar during the discussion on demands for grants of Horticulture and Soil Conservation department on Wednesday, minister Letpao said that farmers are provided green houses under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) Scheme.
For this, the farmer has to first register via online portal hornetgov.in and then deposit a sum of Rs 72,250 for the green house, which costs Rs 6.15 lakh.
Informing that the department does not provide potato seedlings at present, the minister said that farmers have to purchase the seedlings from a dealer or a retailer.
There is a limit of 1 metric ton per hectare and the department will give a subsidy of around 30 percent for the potato seedlings purchased by the farmers, he added.
Letpao then said that the department has begun distribution of HV crops in the hill districts including seedlings of dragon fruit, kiwi, cashew nut, cardamom and low chilling apple.
As per the CM's instruction, the priority is given to farmers who were previously involved in poppy plantations, he stated, while adding that efforts are being taken up for increasing the yield of the said crops from the hill districts.
Any farmer, who has Ki-san Credit Card and requires a bank loan, will be granted the loan by a State Level Bank Committee consisting of the Chief Secretary after getting apprised by the state government, he added.
