Poumai bodies hold rally on 'War against Drug'

In a step to intensify their campaign on "War against Drug" in Poumai areas, Poumai frontal organisations comprising Poumai Naga Union (PNU), Poumai Naga Women's Union (PNNM) and Poumai Naga Students' Union (PNTM) organised a bike & car rally on Saturday.
The rally was organised in collaboration with the Senapati district administration, police, for est department, horticulture department and agriculture department.
The rally traversed through nine Poumai villages in Senapati district, covering more than 150 km .
During the rally, PNU president D Dailord Pao told the villagers that rally was organised to remind them that the union restricts poppy cultivation in the land as per the resolution passed by the assembly of the union.
The president also mentioned that the team has been travelling from place to place spreading the message while urging the villagers to continuously support the move of the frontal organisations and ordered to follow as per the resolution passed in the assembly.
Different village elders lauded the move of the frontal organisations and declared to support the move.
Some villages had reportedly passed resolution not to plant poppy earlier adding many other communities had left following the restriction.
A sub-inspector of the district police mentioned about the quantum of penalties against those who defy the rules laid down by the union while adding that poppy and drug have become allergic in the state by now.
The sub-inspector also reminded the villagers that the Police will investigate into who else are planting poppy in a village and when a village chairman/secretary cannot point out the poppy cultivators, they will be picked up for legal action as per law.
Speaking to this correspondent, Banner Lanamai James, a finalist of Rubaru Mr India 2022, congratulated the Poumai frontal organisations for taking up the initiative and said that it is the time to strictly follow the rules and regulations laid down by the government.
P Achevei, the winner of Mega Mr Northeast 2021-22, who also took part in the rally, lauded the Poumai frontal organisations for organising such an anti-drug rally and urged all to cooperate with the campaign.
Joram Koveo Woba, president Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur; former Miss Lui-Ngai-Ni and Mrs Poumai Julita Robert also lauded the Poumai civil bodies for their efforts against drugs.
The first phase of the rally covered nine different villages including Sorbung, Khamsom, Khamsom Hupfii, Tingsong Khunou, Tingsong Centre, Tingsong Khullen, Ngamju, Oinam Hill and Thingba Khullen.
