Imphal, June 03 2019: Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West has fixed July 8 for cognizance hearing against five police personnel after CBI prayed for time before the Court today in connection with the alleged fake encounter/ extra judicial killing of Khumbongmayum Orsonjit at Taothong Makha Leikai on March 16, 2010.The Court had fixed today for the cognizance hearing, after registering a case in connection with the charge sheet submitted by CBI/ SIT on May 29 against five police personnel.

During the hearing today, the Court went through the case records and heard the CBI counsel who prayed for more time and as such, the Court allowed the CBI prayer before fixing July 8 for cognizance hearing against the five police personnel.

It may be mentioned that on May29,DSP, VPS Mann, CBI, SCH, New Delhi, and DSP DS Chauhan, CBI, STB New Delhi, had submitted the charge sheet against the five police personnel, then Havildar Laishram Premkumar s/o Lukhoi of Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai, then Havildar Leichongbam Romesh s/o Chaoba of Vijang (near Tuibong forest gate, Churachandpur), then Constable Md Ibomcha Shah s/o Md Latif Ali of Yairipok Tulihal, then Constable Ahkub Luther Kom s/o (L) Sothang Kom of Thayong village, Lamlai and then Havildar Khwairakpam Somendro s/o Ibochou of Thanga Oinam Khwairakpam Leikai.

In the charge sheet, CBI mentioned that the accused police personnel created a false story to protect themselves from the offence committed by them in connection with the alleged fake encounter/extra judicial killing of Khumbongmayum Orsonjit at Taothong Makha Leikai on March 16, 2010.The charge sheet also prayed for taking cognizance against the accused police personnel and to issue necessary notice against them.
