MHRC issues notice on pending murder cases

Imphal, May 03 2024: Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has issued notices to DIG Range-2, Thoubal SP and Thoubal police station OCafter over 30 murder cases were found pending at Thoubal PS in the last three decades.

On Friday, a team led by MHRC chairperson Justice UB Saha and member KK Singh conducted an inspection of three old age homes in Imphal West and Thoubal districts.

The team also visited Women PS Thoubal and Thoubal PS where the chairperson himself found that investigation of around 31 murder cases and seven other cases from 2019 were still pending.

In this regard, the Commission issued notices to the DIG Range-2, SP Thoubal and OC Thou bal PS, instructing them to res pond by May 7.It further directed SP Thoubal to come to the Commission on the day and submit the latest status report on the investigation of the FIRs and the OC of Thoubal PS to submit the case diary and status report of the first 10 FIRs in the pending case list.

The Commission then directed the registry to forward copies of the order to commissioner (home) and DGP Manipur by Saturday, while directing the DGP to instruct DIG Range-2, SP Thoubal and OC Thoubal PS to put the order into action.

The law officer of the Commission will communicate with OC Thoubal PS via telephone.

It further hoped that DGP Manipur will take up steps to ensure that not only SP Thoubal but the related authorities in other districts would see to follow-up and closure of required investigations into pending murder and POCSO cases.
