Maklang opposes rail line through human settlement

Imphal, April 03 2013: With construction of railway line from Tupul to Imphal encroaching upon human inhabited areas, Maklang Makha Leikai, which is under Imphal West district, is most likely to disappear altogether.

Reacting against the ongoing railway line construction work in human inhabited areas and demanding that the same should be done in areas where it would not destroy houses and disturb human settlements; villagers of Maklang Makha Leikai staged a sit-in-protest in their locality today.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, Khuraijam Ram, Convenor of Land Protection Committee, Maklang Makha Leikai, stated that the step being taken up by the State and the Central Government for construction of railway line from Tupul to Imphal is indeed a good initiative.

But destruction of human settlements in the process is not a wise decision and it is against the wishes of the people.
