Manipuri film actor RK Somorendro, popularly known as Kaiku, who also contested the last Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate, along with 41 of his companions including several artistes, joined BJP on Thursday.
Felicitating them at the party office here on Thursday, Chief Minister N Biren said that BJ'P is a party which stands for the nation and the people.
The good governance brought by the party is the main reason behind the large number of intending candidates vying for the party's ticket.
Though some of the intending candidates, who did not get party tickets, have joined other parties to contest the election, BJP has been able to bring understanding among the remaining.
Maintaining that the party's position is still intact, Biren reiterated that the party will definitely win a minimum of 40 seats out of which 30 will be from the valley areas and 10 from the hill areas.
He then called upon the public for their support to elect BJP to power again and bring further peace and development.
BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda said that the country did not get the true experience of independence until BJP came into power at the Centre.
Today, the country as well as the state are flourishing under the BJP rule and the party's good governance will help in achieving the target of 40 seats easily, she said.
BJP Manipur in-charge Sambit Patra, BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president N Nimbus and secretary organisation Abhay Giri were also present during the felicitation function.
On the other-hand, former MLA Meinam Bhorot of Thangmeiband assembly constituency said that the state lost the special category status during the Congress rule and the state is still facing its impact.
While felicitating former Congress corporator of IMC Gaidbn Kamei during a function held at Thangmeiband Tarung Khul community hall on Thursday, Bhorot said that the BJP government led by N Biren faced severe hardships as the special category status was lifted during the Congress rule.
He questioned the motive behind the policy and said that it has resulted in sluggish pace of development in the state.
At the same time, failure to submit utilisation certificates in time stalled several projects during the previous government, he added.
BJP candidate for Thangmeiband AC Jyotin Waikhom called upon the people of the constituency to support him and get the experience of having a ruling MLA.
He also urged the public not to support the candidate, who shifts party in every election.
