Failure of civil administration, law & order: MPCC

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra contended that the unfortunate clash that took place between residents of two villages in Ukhrul on Wednesday and the resultant fatalities including one MR personnel was fallout of failure of law and order in the state including civil administration.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan, here, on Wednesday, Meghachandra regretted that the clash on International Non-Violence Day left at least three people dead.
Sharing his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, Meghachandra appealed to residents of both the villages to live peacefully as usual by exercising maximum restraint and preventing further clash.
According to K Meghachandra, the unfortunate incident occurred during a cleanliness drive conducted by the district administration as part of Swachh Bharat Divas.
It is learnt that villagers had lodged a complaint to district administration on Tuesday against the plan of conducting the cleanliness drive.
Despite the complaint, both the district administration and home department remained careless and accordingly the clash erupted, he said and strongly alleged that the incident happened due to failure of law & order including civil administration.
Former minister Samuel Jendai, who also attended the press conference, expressed his profound sorrow on demise of three people in the clash between two neighbouring villages and shared pain and grief of the bereaved families.
He also appealed to residents of both the villages to exercise maximum restraint in the spirit of peace and harmony.
