Assam Rifles, villagers destroy poppy cultivation

Assam Rifles teamed up with villagers to carry out a successful operation to destroy illegal poppy cultivation over the area of approximately 2.5 sq km at Molanghat village, Chandel on Sunday.
The villagers destroyed the poppy fields to curb the negative impact of poppy on health and society, said a PRO IGAR (S) release.
Informing that the Assam Rifles has been conducting awareness campaign since long to educate villagers about the harmful effects on society and consequences of illegal poppy cultivation, the PRO said that inspired by the campaigns, the villagers took a proactive step to work for a better future and destroyed the poppy menace with help of Assam Rifles.
The joint efforts of Assam Rifles and villagers highlighted the resolution of both to curb anti-social activities linked to poppy cultivation and the active participation of civilians showcased their support for the endeavour of Assam Rifles to promote peace and development in the northeast, it added.
