Minister calls for IPR-media rapport to achieve goal

The 76th Information & Public Relations Day was observed on Friday at the auditorium of the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (IPR), Nityaipak Chuthek, here, with IPR minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh as chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Ranjan called upon the media fraternity to uphold the highest standards of authenticity in reporting and provide broader coverage of global issues particularly global warming to foster environmental awareness.
Human error is universal but minimising errors before dissemination of news is important as wrong interpretation will serve false message to the public, he said and urged media persons to try to avoid such situations while reporting.
According to minister Ranjan, the IPR directorate may be a minor department but its role and responsibility is enormous as it disseminates information related with programmes taken up by the government for the welfare of the people.
He also stressed the need for coordination between IPR and media fraternities to deliver meaningful service to the people.
Highlighting IPR directorate's recent initiatives, Dr Ranjan referred to several welfare measures introduced for scribes of the state and invited suggestions from media members to improve the directorate's efforts.
He also encouraged directorate employees to maintain dedication and integrity in their work.
In his address, commissioner (IPR) M Joy Singh noted that the directorate has made significant improvement in recent times, made possible due to support and cooperation from the media fraternity.
He also highlighted various schemes taken up by the directorate for the welfare of journalists of the state.
Director (IPR) Dr Th Charanjeet Singh, in his keynote address, said that the directorate (formerly as publicity office) since its inception has been disseminating information to public and playing a key role in connecting public with the government by providing information from time to time.
In this current scenario of the state, the role of IPR as well as media is very important in bringing back normalcy and harmony, he said.
Earlier, a booklet was released in connection with the observance while three officials of the directorate were honoured for their distinguished service.
Tribute to the first publicity officer RK Maipaksana of the directorate was paid by felicitating a family member with citation and shawl.
Many retired officials of the directorate present on the occasion were also felicitated with presentation of simple gifts Members from the media fraternity, and officers of the directorate as well as from district offices attended the event.
