Senapati, September 01 2014:
Naga Women's Union (NWU) today expressed deep concern over the Ukhrul situation and terms the August 30 Ukhrul incident as alarming.
"The speech by our political leaders yesterday is also serious," NWU added.
While strongly condemning the alleged arbitrary killing of two rally volunteers and injuring more than 17 others in Ukhrul on Saturday by the IRB and police commandos during the protest rally against the 'militarisation of Naga areas' particularly Ukhrul district, NWU said that protest was against the unabated aggressive policies encroaching upon the ancestral lands of the Nagas and the tribals and disrespect for the democratic process of tripartite talk of Alternative Arrangement by the Government of Manipur.
NWU demands for speedy removal of the imposition of section 144 CrPC in Ukhrul district and the arbitrary actions against the public who raised voices against it.
The Government of Manipur is responsible for the killing and wounded more than 17 persons and for all the tense situation created and for all the consequences by not removing the section 144 CrPC, it stated.
Meanwhile, Naga Students' Federation (NSF) has vehemently condemned the killing of two innocent civilians and injuring many people at Ukhrul Town in police firing during a peaceful rally.
The Federation questioned the Govt.of Manipur (GoM) about the rationale behind the promulgation of section 144 CrPC for so long even though the public have sought to do away with it and said that the the August 30th incident has clearly shown the intention of the Govt.of Manipur that the Manipur commandos and IRB are deployed in the district not for safeguarding but for militarization and bring fear psychosis in the minds of the peace loving citizen.
