Imphal, March 01 2022:
A1CC election observer Jairam Ramesh has demanded re-poll in nine assembly constituencies in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts which went to the polls on Monday while alleging that no fair election was held in these constituencies.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan here on Tuesday, the AICC leader said that democracy and Constitution were murdered in the nine assembly constituencies as Monday's election in these assembly segments was not fair due to threat posed to voters by Prime Minister, Union home minister and KNO.
He also said that chief election commissioner and chief electoral officer should understand that KNO's threat to voters who are not in favour of the BJP candidate was the main reason for making the election unfair.
He also asked as to how could armed cadres of unlawful organisations who are supposed to be kept confined in their respective designated camps managed to come out and threatened voters to vote for BJP candidate.
MPCC spokesperson Debbrata, who also attended the press conference, said that the CEO's press release claimed of peaceful conduct of election on Monday as if resolving petitions filed by political parties and candidates about different incidents including booth capture was condemnable.
MPCC condemns issuance of the statement by CEO before disposing complaints filed by political parties and candidates properly.
There were incidents of booth capturing and voting under duress in at least nine polling stations of Saikul AC and most of polling stations in Saitu AC.
CEO's statement failed to mention complaints filed about forcible voting in 23 polling stations of Henglep AC and 17 polling stations in Churachandpur AC as well as not allowing polling agents of Congress party from entering 11 polling stations in Heingang AC, Debbrata added.
According to Debbrata, the CEO must have seen and read the joint statement issued by four unlawful organisations threatening voters to give vote to BJP candidates while maintaining that all their issues will be resolved by the Prime Minister and the Union home minister but it was condemnable that the CEO did not take any case.
In view of forcible acts committed by unlawful organisations, re-poll should be held in nine assembly constituencies of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts.
He also warned that the Heingang incident would become a big issue if CEO fails to take up the case as the level of proxy voting that took place in Heingang AC was unprecedented in the election history of India and Manipur.
