640 gm heroin seized, two held

As part of the government's "War on Drugs" campaign, Kangpokpi police seized 640 grams of heroin from a truck and arrested the driver and the handyman.
The arrested driver and the handyman have been respectively identified as Salam Devan Singh (38) s/o late Salam Tomba Singh of Keibul Lamjao and Ningombam Chenish (28) s/o N Ibohal of Bashikhong Mamang Leikai.
Addressing media persons in this regard at his office, Kangpokpi SP Th Vikramjit informed that acting on a tip-off a combined team of Gamnom Saparmeina police and Kangpokpi police led by Additional SP (Ops) Abdul Kalam conducted frisking and checking near Thingbongjang village market shed along NH-2 around 10:30 pm on January 30 .
During the checking, a suspicious looking truck (NL 01 AC 5936) came towards Kangpokpi from Imphal.
The police team stopped the truck and detained the driver and handyman, he said while adding that it was established during the search that the truck had drugs inside it.
However, since there was no mechanic the truck along with the detained truck driver and handyman were kept guarded for the whole night.
He further informed that on the next day around 10:30 am, the truck was fully checked with the help of a mechanic in front of a magistrate during which 54 soap cases of Heroin were found hidden inside a speaker box.
The recovered Heroin weighed around 640 grams.
Along with seizing the Heroin, the police also formally arrested the driver and the handyman at 11:45 am of January 31 .
Accordingly, Gamnom Sapermeina police has registered a case under NDPS Act against the arrested duo, who has been remanded in police custody after producing them before a court.
